Nathan Smith - Next Chapter

Get to know.

Nathan Smith

Technical Director

Nathan Smith

What was your first job and did you enjoy it?

Paper run. I had to get up at 5:30am and deliver the local paper around the neighbourhood on my BMX before school. I enjoyed the extra cash, especially when I sold extra copies to randoms.

What led you to this career path?

I got my first computer (comadore 64) when I was 13. I mainly used it to play games. When I was 22 and had been working at the ANZ Bank for 4 years I decided it wasn’t for me and went to get a computer degree so I could make games. I graduated in 2001 and there weren’t any gaming companies in my city so I ended up working for a startup making a SaaS product before it was called SaaS.

What’s one thing that surprised you about working remotely at Next Chapter?

How much I enjoyed working from home full-time which gave me the ability to design my lifestyle routines. If I wanted to take a nap in the afternoon and work an hour in the evening, or walk the dog between meetings, I could.

If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose and why?

Hard to say. Astronaut on launch day? Food critic eating at the classiest of restaurants?

What’s the best concert you ever went to?

Red Hot Chilli Peppers

What would be your idea of the best holiday ever?

I want to go to Japan again. Love the food and culture.

What is your star sign and what traits do you identify with within your sign?

Pisces – Empathy, intuition, and creativity.
